Who You'd Actually Be Hiring
I'm James Pegg. Twenty plus years building and explaining complex software, for companies big and small, spanning multiple industries.
Some Highlights:
Three years as Technical Writing Manager at Workday, leading writers in a Fortune 500 enterprise SaaS environment with mature documentation standards.
Before that, a Tech Writer and sole Project Manager at Haemonetics on the support contract for the US Department of Defense's blood management software: a $6M/year program on an FDA-regulated platform where things didn't get to be late and didn't get to be wrong.
A stretch as Product Manager at a SaaS GovTech company, where I learned adoption and product stickiness from inside the product org.
Various leadership roles across technical writing, training, and customer service teams along the way.
That's the foundation. The current business is what I built on top of it.
How I Work
I'm a solo operator by design, not by default. You hire me, you get me. Not a junior writer trained on my style, not a project manager who hands the actual work to someone else. The same person scoping the engagement is the one writing the docs and producing the videos. I'm easy to work with on feedback. I can take direction I disagree with without making it a conflict, and I'll tell you clearly when I feel strongly enough to push back. My goal on every project is the best outcome, not protecting my original idea. I'd rather hear a hard truth early than a soft one late. I'll do the same for you. If you need a vendor who delivers what they committed to, on the timeline they committed to, with senior judgment baked into every decision, that's the one I am.
So What’s with the Name?
Well, James is a family name and…oh, you mean Articulate Artisans Communications.
It can be a bit of a mouthful, but I chose it because it spoke to who I am, my past experience, and how I approach what I do.
Articulate is obviously all about effectively sharing information - turning complex materials into something people understand.
Artisans is more about how I approach the content that I produce. Everything is individually crafted, built with an intension and a purpose.
Communications is, well, embedded in everything I do, whether that be docs or videos.
