Passpack: Quick Start, Administration, and End User Guides

Passpack offers a robust Credential Manager for businesses of all sizes. They provide enterprise-grade security without the complexity or cost of traditional enterprise tools.

This client is available as a reference.

Challenge:

With a new release just out that showcased a completely redesigned user interface and features that targeted their business users rather than consumers, Passpack needed a major documentation overhaul. Like a lot of small businesses, the documentation they had was written by the founders and topics had been added over time ad hoc as customers asked for them. The documentation relied heavily on complicated screen captures, weren’t easily scannable, and lacked an easily navigable structure.

Passpack had a good base, but everything else needed to be torn down and rebuilt.

They also had a tight deadline - only 4 weeks - and needed guides for multiple audiences.

Solution:

Because of the tight deadline, there wasn’t any time to ease in and get familiar with the product. But his actually suits my working style really well: I learn software by working with it and by writing about it. I produce docs, get feedback, and iterate. This meant a working Quick Start Guide that covered the core elements in less than 5 days. And with the core validated, I could quickly work from there.

The team was really responsive to questions and provided great product demos as needed, which greatly helped the entire process.

For this documentation, I worked on Markdown files in Docusaurus, which the client already had.

Results:

This is a great example of what can be done in a short amount of time.

  • Quick Start Guide (for Administrators)
